5th post: the adventure begins!

After a very long and sleepless flight, I arrived in Japan at 6am this morning!  Took a long time to get through customs because apparently Narita has a curfew where it does accept flights before 6am so all the flights that were delayed from the typhoon yesterday and stuff were coming in at the same time, but got my luggage fairly quickly, and arranged to have it sent to my flat.  This was actually easier than I expected, mostly because I had the email with my address so the nice girl just copied it out in Japanese.  Nevertheless, I suffered severe separation anxiety from my stuff!

I caught the Keisei Liner from the airport, which meant that I got pretty views of cherry blossoms on my way in and a very awesome view of the Sky Tree.  I was very tired and grumpy at that point but seeing the Sky Tree cheered me up.  Getting to my station was very easy (especially without needing to lug my suitcases!), where I met my sister (only two hours late, oops!).  Then I got to see my flat!  It is a very nice flat, clean and slightly bigger than I expected.  It has a massive TV for me to watch my itoshii Arashi on!  There are lots of awesome places to eat nearby and two karaoke places.  We had no time to lollygag around though, as I had to go to Shinjuku to sign my lease and pick up my key, plus we had to eat and get house stuff.

Before Shinjuku we went to Gusto (or as we call it, Gutso) for a food, where I had curry rice and my sister had hotcakes.  The stuff at the real estate took ages and there was lots of paperwork and rules but they gave us free green tea and kitkats so that was good.  We went to Don Quixote to buy some things for the house, but after selecting some pretty green and blue towels the noise and clutteredness drove all reasonable thought out of our brains so we left.  There was a 100 yen shop nearby so we went and got a few more house things there but then had to hurry home for luggage delivery!

My sister had been without her suitcase since she arrived yesterday on account of the typhoon and hers was supposed to arrive after 2pm and mine after 3, so we spent the rest of the afternoon waiting for our stuff.  We assembled a set of shelves my sister bought (actually much less scary than it seemed at first with all the different parts and instructions in Japanese) and I made up my futon and that kind of thing.  I tried to nap, as I'd not had sleep, but I was worried I would miss my suitcase delivery so I couldn't sleep.  My sister's case was supposed to arrive by 4pm and about 4.05 we started getting very worried.  What if I never saw my stuff again!  My laptop was in there, and my medicine and clean underwear!  But then our stuff showed up (just as I'd finally got nearly to sleep) and so we unpacked and then went to karaoke.

The karaoke we went to had theme rooms.  Ours was the Osaka room, it was kind of cool.  We sang a lot and one song we did so well it brought a tear to my eye!  I know some people may think it may have been a tear of pain (Lynne), but we were really amazing.  There are apparently karaoke places where you can get CDs of yourself singing (again, Lynne - expect these for all Christmas and birthday presents in the near future) and I really wish we had this time of record of our amazingness.  Unfortunately after about an hour my voice started to go on me, but I stuck it out a bit longer.  We were also very good at Kiseki, which we were hesitant to try because there's this very hard bit in the middle and it is the #1 most played song at karaoke everywhere so we thought we might get deported if we screwed it up.  Anyway, then when we were paying, the chick totally gypped us and charged us like 500 yen more than she'd quoted us at the start.  Am definitely going to the other place next time!!

Then we went and got bentos from the convenience store and now we are home.  The Lion King is on TV which is kind of funny in Japanese.  I have not studied for my placement test tomorrow at all.  Well I have, just not today.  I revised kanji a bit at karaoke, and it was also helpful for vocab, but I'm going to get up early tomorrow morning and revise grammar a bit before my first day at uni.  I'd do it now, only I'm so tired that I can't even eat the delicious-looking pudding I bought at the convenience store.

Man, I'm totally going to fail this placement test and get sent back to Australia, aren't I!!!
