So, Golden Week has come and gone. It was a short week - mostly because it was actually only five days, and I could probs do with another two or three like it. But alas, it's back to school tomorrow.
Thursday I was bit tired and sick, so we decided not to leave the neighbourhood. We were going to try out this new karaoke - not new in that it just opened, new in that we just realised it was there - but it was shut and also expensive and dodgy-looking, so we went to the one near the station, because it was open and we like it there. We have a points card now! The dude knows us and he always gives us the same room and sets it up how we like it. We don't even have to say anything! We didn't stay too long because we had the chilly sweats and also they charge a premium price for karaoke during Golden Week, but we still managed to sing up a storm. Then I came home and napped. I napped so long I slept through VS Arashi! Oh noes!!! Usually after VS Arashi is this drama where Nishikido Ryo plays himself as an idol who secretly gets married to a single mother, and then Himitsu no Arashi-chan, ie. a prime night of viewing. However, because of Golden Week, there was this 2 hour Kanjani8 special instead. Yokoyama Yuu and one of the other Kanjanis went to Hokkaido to stay with this incredibly fat family on a dairy farm. The mother made 6kg of chicken karaage (like deep fried chicken) plus pasta and all this other stuff for dinner for them every night! That is more than I eat at Gutso! Then Nishikido and Maru went and baby-sat this bratty kid, and one of the others went to Papau New Guinea and joined a tribe for a few days. Because you don't have to watch K8 as closely as Arashi, on account of most of them aren't cute, I practiced my drawing for when I write my shoujo manga.
Next I will move on from faces and try to do bodies but the tutorials I can find for bodies all seem very hard. It is tough work becoming a mangaka!
Where we live is called "down the hill" in Japanese, so Friday we decided to venture up the hill for a look. They have fancy stuff up the hill for the fancy up the hill people. There is a Doutor coffee shop and a Matsuya, which is this super cheap restaurant place where you order your food by buying a ticket of what you want from the ticket machine and then giving the ticket to the girl. This is very convenient, as you don't have to talk to people and the pictures of the food are on the machine. I had tomato curry rice with egg, which was excellent. We went to Doutor for coffee and to study, but then started feeling sick again, so we went to the 100 yen Lawsons (convenience store where everything is 100 yen) and got some vegies and other groceries, and then came home and napped some more.
Kathryn made a delicious stirfry for dinner and we watched Music Station, because Arashi were performing their new song on it. Also, you could vote for your favourite Arashi song and they were doing a top 10 countdown. They were also doing the same thing for the other guests on there, like Mr Children and Perfume and Yuzu. Well, Mr Children got a top 10 as well, the others only got a top 3 because they don't have as many good songs. I voted 132 times for Pika**nchi Double but it wasn't even in the top 10. I'm pretty sure it was set up anyway, because what if someone had voted a bizillion times for something like Allergy? I mean, they definitely wouldn't have those giant vegetables on hand so they wouldn't be able to do the choreography. Anyway not to give anyone spoilers but Love So Sweet came #1, so they performed that and the new song. Poor old Nino had strained his leg earlier in the week (clearly being a sexual powerhouse comes with its drawbacks), and I guess they had him drugged up to the eyeballs, because he kept sort of nodding off when he was out of shot in the talky bits, but he danced really well (better than usual, actually), even though apparently Sho and Leader had to carry him up the stairs afterwards. Soldier on, you wacky little guy!
Sleep is my best friend at the moment. I slept about 16 hours Friday night. I still felt really crap yesterday so we didn't do much. I studied until about 7, then we went to the other convenience store to get snacks for Arashi. It's always an adventure going to the other convenience store, because it's in the opposite direction to our normal one, though around the same distance. There's heaps of little bars and restaurants along the way, all only big enough to fit about 4 people. It makes you wonder how they afford to stay open, but I think some are just the front of people's houses and they just have their buddies come over and charge them for drinks. When we came home, we realised we'd left the balcony open all day, oops! I'd also forgotten to get my futon in AGAIN! Luckily it was just on dark, so maybe that is okay? The moon was very big, so I took photos of it.
This is the view from our balcony. The moon actually looked bigger if you saw it with your eyes.
Then we watched Aiba's drama where he's a detective who's so bad at his job he has to get the help of a talking cat to solve crimes, and then Arashi ni Shiyagare, where they had a cooking battle with comedians. Jun has new hair, it looks very Korean. Because we'd slept so much and were feeling a bit better, we decided to go to karaoke for a bit. We kind of lost track of time and were the last ones to leave, but the lovely lady - who I think is the mama of the guy who is normally there - was very sweet and didn't seem to mind that we'd cut into her sleeping time.
We were supposed to meet Liam and Sarah at Yoyogi Park at 12 to kick the footy but when we woke up it was 12! Oh no! Liam had slept in too - sorry Sarah! It took me a while to get going because I am very old and creaky but we eventually made it. Kathryn got cursed by this creepy guy at Harajuku station, who stood in front of her chanting "Tokkaido, Tokkaido". Anyway, we met up with Liam and Sarah and kicked the footy a bit, then went to see the puppies in the dog run. While we were there it started to thunder and then all of a sudden it started bucketing down with rain! I think this is the fault of the cursing Tokkaido guy! We made a mad run for the station, because the rain was very hard and cold and hailstones were hitting us in the head, but I couldn't run good on account of my legs are old and creaky, By the time we made it out of the park, the rain had stopped, but we were soaked! Here is a picture of soaked us, I am making a stupid duck face because I was trying to squeeze us all into the photo.
We were going to go to Asakusa to see them put fake fireflies in the river to light it up, on account of the river is too polluted for the real fireflies to go there anymore, and also because they had festival foods on sticks there, but we decided the weather might be too bad. Liam and Sarah headed off for an all you can eat buffet, and Kathryn and I decided to go buy dry clothes, as we thought maybe if the weather held out we'd still go to Asakusa. I bought a pair of leopard print jeans (lol, yay) and a kind of ugly t-shirt and Kathryn bought a t-shirt with a tiger on it, but we still felt kind of damp and gross, so we decided to head home. Because the Yamanote line is awful, we decided to go to Meguro because you can catch our subway line from there straight through. At Meguro we had Indian food, which was pretty awesome. It was cooked by real Indian guys! The butter chicken was a bit too creamy but the cheese naan was amazing. We were so tired we could've slept right there but we managed to drag ourselves home. On the subway home there were these three young salarymen sitting opposite us and they were arguing about which of them had the best crease down the front of their pants, and who had the best beltloops, it was pretty entertaining.
Tomorrow we are meeting this girl from craigslist who is selling us a super cheap rice cooker and shelves and really long internet cord, yay! We were going to have rice for dinner and then watch Arashi on Hey! Hey! Hey! Music Champ special live, but while we were in Harajuku we stopped in to the ticket shop to see if they had cheap Hey! Say! Jump! tickets, so now we are going to their concert tomorrow at Yokohama. They were the same price as the KAT-TUN tickets we bought, but will be better value on account of we will actually go this time.
